3. Where will we be sailing
The yachts are harboured in the beautiful city of Murter, in Marina Hramina. The 1st leg’s start line is from the bay of Murter and the finish line is at Murter Aquatorium. From here on the course of the Regatta is based on the weather.
The organisers will create the next day’s track based on the weather and the condition of the crew.
There are no night-legs and majority of the overnights will be in a marina.
The sailing territory can be either south Kornati including Zut, Teljascica National Park or around island Zirje, Kaprije, Zlarin and Primosten.
Here are some info and pictures detailing the Sailing area.
KORNATI NATIONAL PARK
Kornati National Park is one of the most popular places in Croatia.
On the shores, in direct contact with the open sea, the waves have formed rock walls up to 100 meters high in several places and here the sea is similar in depth.
The indented coastline and rich marine flora and fauna provides breathtaking views! On the shores of the islands we can also discover corals, mussels and a variety of fish in dazzling colors, and if we’re lucky, even meet dolphins in the morning.
Teljascica National Park
Telascica National Park is located right in the middle of the Adriatic Sea, at the southern end of the island of Dugi. 70 kilometers of coastline and 25 bays make up part of the huge diversity of the region.
Some of the most impressive features include the gigantic metered Telascica Bay, Salt Lake Mir and the Strmac rocks. Underground sea streams feed the lake with water. As the lake has no freshwater supply, evaporating seawater falls back into the lake and further increases the salinity of the lake.
The Strmac rocks protrude from the sea with steep, almost vertical rock walls with a height of 160 meters.
Murter – The island of pirates
Murter is favoured by many visitors, largely thanks to it unique position and size. Secluded, peaceful and tiny, this is a real gem in the ocean.
There are records of Murter Island dating back to Roman times, at that time it was called Scardon, but according to the prehistoric stone bastion on the Murterić Peninsula, people lived here as far back as 3000 years ago. Murter is a real ‘ship’s paradise’. Large ports can be found in all the little settlements. There are 200 ports in Jezera, 500 in Murter and 200 in Betina. Wherever we travel through the islands we encounter multitudes of stunning yachts and beautiful sailboats.
There are many small islands and hidden bays that provided a great hiding place for pirates at the time.
Iz
The island of Iž is known for its local fishermen, potters, olive trees and typical Mediterranean vegetation. It is the only Dalmatian island that has preserved its traditional pottery to this day. Every year in May the village festival (Iška fešta) is held here. The tradition of this event dates back to antiquity.
It is well worth visiting the top of Korinjak Hill, It offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding islands
